Broncos vs. Chargers: Monday Night Football Week 11 Lines

Monday Night NFL Betting – Can Chargers Cover Double-Digits?

The Denver Broncos did the San Diego Chargers a big favor by blowing out the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Now the Broncos can either close the gap with another win or the Chargers can move back into a race for first place if they can win as expected.

How Can Denver Win?

Bring the offense that showed up last week. The Broncos, who were matched up against a pretty good Chiefs defense, absolutely shredded them and were up 35-0 before the Chiefs even blinked. And it wasn’t anything bad that the Chiefs really did; it was just that the Broncos were on fire.

The key to the offense is clearly running back Knowshon Moreno. The Broncos are 2-0 in games where he has more than 20 carries and that will be a key this Sunday. When he’s not running well, the Broncos are just a predictable passing team.

While still mocked because he’s Kyle Orton, the Broncos quarterback has grown into one of the best in the league. He’s second in passing yards, seventh in quarterback rating, fourth in yards per attempt and has a 16-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. While also still mocked, Brandon Lloyd is one of the best receivers in the NFL. He leads the league with 968 receiving yards and averages 20.2 yards per catch.

While everyone wants to say that the Broncos miss Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall, they really don’t. Their offense is just fine but they have to make sure there is balance and all facets of the game are productive.

How Can San Diego Win?

They have the No. 1 overall offense and the No. 2 overall defense. It’s time this team gets back to .500.

They finally have some momentum with two straight wins over Tennessee and Houston, and they are coming off a much-needed by week. The Chargers will get receiver Malcolm Floyd back in the lineup and possibly Legedu Naanee as well, but they might be without tight end Antonio Gates.

But the truth is that it doesn’t matter who the Chargers put out there. As long as Philip Rivers continues his MVP campaign, the offense will move the ball and score points.

At home, off a bye, this will be a shootout. If that’s the case, you want Rivers on your side.

Outlook

The spread is a little bit perplexing here. The Chargers are just one game better than the Broncos, but the Chargers are favored by double digits. In a matchup of quarterbacks, Rivers has three more touchdowns and three more picks than Orton, so that’s fairly even.

The only real difference between the squads is that we know the Chargers will put up points where as Denver can sometimes disappear. But it’s unlikely in this spot.

This is a division rivalry and the Broncos will come to play. Expect a back-and-forth shootout with both defenses getting burned. Take the Broncos to cover but the Chargers to win.

Pick: Broncos +10
